Jean Mohammadi-Aragh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), and the Director of the Bagley College of Engineering (BCoE) Office of Inclusive Excellence at Mississippi State University. Through her interdependent roles in research, teaching, and service, Jean is actively breaking down academic and social barriers to foster an environment where diverse and creative people are successful in the pursuit of engineering and computing degrees. Jean’s efforts have been recognized with numerous awards including the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development award, the American Society for Engineering Education John A. Curtis Lecturer award, and the BCoE Service award.

Jean initially joined the Mississippi State University faculty in 2013 as a visiting assistant professor in the Dean of Engineering Office to support new initiatives for first-year engineering students. During that time, Jean joined other engineering faculty to establish a collaborative network of faculty that eventually spanned three colleges in support of innovations in engineering classrooms and proposal development for engineering education research. The group also created the interdisciplinary engineering doctoral degree concentration in engineering education.

Jean joined the ECE Department as an assistant professor in 2016. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses, including circuit analysis, microprocessors, computer architecture, and engineering design, and has earned praise for her classroom teaching. Most recently, her efforts in support of the online electrical engineering bachelor’s program were recognized with the 2024 BCoE Teaching Award for Distance Learning. In support of her research agenda, Jean has secured funding for projects totaling over $9.1 million, with $8.55 million in awards from the National Science Foundation.

Jean has dedicated herself to service in support of the University and her profession. She currently serves as the undergraduate degree program coordinator for both bachelor’s programs within the ECE department, and serves on various committees within the university, including the Inclusive Excellence Leadership Council. She has also served in numerous leadership roles for the American Society of Engineering Education, including her current role as Division Chair for the Computers in Education Division.

Jean holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Mississippi State University both in computer engineering, and a doctorate from Virginia Tech in engineering education.
