Dr. Ty Abernathy is an Assistant Research Professor at Mississippi State University. He has a joint-appointment with the Social Science Research Center (SSRC) and the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology (DCEP). He received his Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from Mississippi State University in 2008. His research in the SSRC focuses on the dispositional and situational factors that influence the academic and social success of freshman students, and how these factors impact retention and graduation rates. He has been involved with research surrounding the performance of freshman students since 1996. He also teaches various courses in the DCEP, including Human Growth and Development, Measurement and Evaluation, and Psychological and Educational Statistics.
