Dr. Haug is an Associate Research Professor in the SSRC. She received her bachelor’s degree in French and social science from the University of North Dakota, her master’s degree in history from the University of Kansas and her doctoral degree in history from Mississippi State University. Her dissertation, “From the Ground Up: The Institutionalization of Public Health Administration in Mississippi,” examines the origins and early years (1877 to 1914) of the Mississippi State Department of Health. Her administrative duties include the oversight of proposal submissions and the management of the grants and contracts program of the Center. Her research work is mainly in the areas of social history and institutional development. She served as a research scientist on the School Nurse Evaluation Component of the Evaluation of the Mississippi Tobacco Pilot Program funded by the Mississippi Department of Health, directed the Resource Assessment for Traumatic Brain Injuries Project, funded by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services, and was also part of the research team formed to conduct the Family Preservation and Family Support Services Project funded by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. She edited the final report for the Family Preservation project. She was named a John D. Rockefeller Archive Center Scholar for 2000. She served as part of the team that developed the Mississippi Health Policy Research Center in the SSRC. At the current time, Dr. Haug serves as the editor for the Mississippi Health Policy Research Center, manages the grant/contract submission process for the SSRC and conducts institutional research in the area of public health.
