Ms. Mathews is a public health scientist, with research interests in epidemiology and population-based studies that focus on women’s health, child’s health and/or racial health disparities.

Primarily, Ms. Mathews works for the Delta Oral Health Project. She coordinates quantitative data collection, management and prepares statistical analysis. She also collaborates with other PIs in the center with data analysis and drafting manuscripts.

Prior to joining the SSRC, Ms. Mathews worked in various settings: state public health agencies, non-profit as well as corporate, always focused on health, data and statistical methodologies.  She has worked on projects with the CDC and USAID. She has expertise in several topics including child labor and human rights, HIV in Africa, and gender-based violence. Her interest in international issues intersects with domestic issues with immigrants and their health issues.  For example, Ms. Mathews has a strong interest in shedding light on the patterns of high diabetes mortality and morbidity in South Asian populations in the US and educating physicians and nurses.

Ms. Mathews has been published in several journals including:  The Lancet, The Annals of Epidemiology, and The American Journal of Infection Control and Epidemiology.

Ms. Mathews is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, having served 2 years in Senegal, West Africa where she primarily focused on HIV education with women and adolescents.
