Dr. Armstrong’s research has focused on the empirical evaluation of health-oriented psycho-educational and clinical treatments, assessment/diagnostic procedures and social/ecological validity issues in clinical psychology.  Some of Dr. Armstrong’s work has involved the development of interactive, computer-based, multimedia adjuncts to psycho-educational interventions to support parent training with children who are non-compliant or diagnosed with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder.  Recent work has included using interactive programs to enhance informed consent in a college health center.  Prior to joining MSU, Dr. Armstrong directed the Child Behavior Laboratory at Western Michigan University conducting research that targeted the behavioral, social and cognitive processes in children identified as having attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder.  Dr. Armstrong has been published in such journals as the Journal of Child and Family Behavior Therapy, Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, Journal of  Developmental and Physical Disabilities and Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
