The Survey Research Laboratory (SRL) conducts telephone, online, mail, and multi-mode surveys. Since 1982, the laboratory has collected data for over 500 surveys using local, state, national, and international samples. These surveys have covered a broad range of research topics including healthcare, vocational rehabilitation, children’s well-being, alcohol and tobacco use, emergency managment, the state of the economy, and political climate. In cooperation with the Political Science Department at Mississippi State University, the SRL also conducts The Mississippi Poll, the only scientifically-based public issues survey in the state of Mississippi.
Withing the past few years, the SRL moved into a new, state-of-the-art facility with 18 interviewer call-stations. The laboratory employs the latest data collection software by SawTooth Technologies and IBM-SPSS.
The Problem Identification & Resolution Laboratory (PIRL) facilitates group problem solving and decision making processes. It enables participants to exchange ideas across an internet connection and engage in “electronic brainstorming” sessions. Group members can present ideas anonymously, while the group can organize and prioritize the ideas, reach a consensus, and decide on a plan of action.
In addition to his work at the Social Science Research Center, Dr. Edwards has taught courses in Measurement and Evaluation, Behavioral Science Writing, and Personality Theory for the Counseling and Educational Psychology Department at Mississippi State University.
Dr. Edwards received a Bachelor’s degree in English from Loyola University in New Orleans, a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of New Orleans, a Master’s degree in Experimental Psychology from Mississippi State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Psychology from Mississippi State University.
