Jay Ritchie is a Research Fellow and Health Data Librarian. He serves as Coordinator of the Monitor Laboratory at the Social Science Research Center (SSRC). As a Research Fellow, Mr. Ritchie provides Visual Management services, complex data systems analysis, and the application of spatial technologies (geographic information systems [GIS], Global Positioning Systems [GPS], and remote sensing) for the social sciences. He has worked with NASA, the Southern Association of Agriculture Experiment Station Director (SAAESD), Mississippi Department of Transportation, and the Foundation for the Mid South. He has also collaborated on a variety of projects in these technical areas with the Mississippi Department of Human Services; the Office of Highway Safety; the Rural Health, Safety, and Security Institute; and others. As Health Data Librarian for the Mississippi Health PolicyResearch Center, Mr. Ritchie facilitates research activities through data identification and acquisition assistance, visualization work, GIS development, and mapping. Current projects include research in the areas of the physician workforce, Mississippi infant mortality, Medicaid access and provider utilization, and Medicaid Medical Home. As Coordinator of the Monitor Laboratory, Mr. Ritchie directs a group providing complex data systems analysis; data visualization; database design; data acquisition, processing, and management; as well as other types of research facilitation services to support other research activities at the SSRC and with external organizations. Mr. Ritchie has over 11 years of experience in the areas of data management, data visualization, and spatial technologies and their applications to the social sciences and management.
