13 juin- Rode for 1 hour

Breakfast in Talloires, then broke camp and headed for the Combe de Savoie wine region. Chris and I rode the combe for an hour while Ric and Marci scouted the 411 on the wine region. After the ride, we regrouped and watched the race came in Gresy. We’re pretty sure that Lance saw the Shiner Bock banner. Post-race, we visited a few caves along the Combe de Savoie. It turns out that this region has the dubious distinction of being the least well-known wine region in all of France, and the combe is the least well-known part of this region. Irregardlessly, the wine was great and we had a blast. I bought several bottles, including a mondeuse and a gamay. Post-winery tool, we drove towards the col de la Telegraph. Under ominous skies, we drove up the Telegraph and then into Valloires. A raging thunderstorm (with hail) deterred us from our plan to spend the night on the Galibier. We retreated to St. Maurene at the base of the Telegraph, had a horrible quattre fromage pizza, and then checked into the Hotel Savoie. A steady flow of bullet trains interrupted my dreams all night. Fortunately, we had had a few bottles of wine before calling it a night – so I slept well.
