FOR EMERGENCY  HELP DIAL 911

  • Remain calm and carefully explain the problem & location. Do not hang up until told to do so

  • Take account of people around you and stay together to organize an appropriate response

  • Take shelter or evacuate together                    Walk don’t run

 

INJURED/ INCAPACITATED EMPLOYEE:

  • Call 911/ Notify building authorities

  • Have someone stay with the victim until emergency personnel arrives.

  • Administer CPR and/or first aid as necessary. A Defibulator is located in Office 179.

A first aid kit is located in suite 103 kitchen, suite 100 hallway and suite 201-B front desk

 

ASSEMBLY POINT

If there is a need to evacuate the building all employees should assemble on the eastern most side of the upper parking lot for  personnel accounting and further instructions  from SSRC Safety Officer or appropriate authorities. ( Persons with special needs should be assisted from the building). Please make mental notes of people in your work area for accountability purposes.

 

SMOKE OR FIRE

  • Pull fire alarm station to activate fire alarm

  • Evacuate building to assembly point

  • Account for all employees

  • Do not re-enter building until authorities have determined all clear & safe to enter

 

TORNADO

Tornado watch: weather conditions are favorable for tornado development

Tornado warning:  a tornado has been sighted by radar in surrounding area: Sirens will    

be activated ( note: sirens are tested on first Tuesday of each month at 12 noon unless     

questionable weather that day)

Tornado Protection Procedures:    When you hear a siren or are notified seek shelter in these predetermined areas:  (stay away from doors and windows)

  •    South Side of the building: Suite 103 area: Shelter in the Survey
       Research Unit or mail room

  •    North Side of the building: Suite 100: Shelter in the east corner of the
       Workforce & Development work area

  •    Upstairs:  If unable to evacuate to lower floors:  Shelter should be taken in interior  
       rooms/hallways:( Eg., Kitchen, restrooms, stairwell.)

If tornado approaches assume kneeling position facing the wall and cover your head with your arms

   

           DO NOT LEAVE SHELTER UNTIL ALL CLEAR IS GIVEN

 

EARTHQUAKE

Within Building:  Take refuge beneath a desk or table. Stay away from windows, shelving or large 
                            free standing furniture

Outdoors:     Move to open space away from buildings, light poles, power lines, trees, etc.

Driving: Stop Vehicle away from buildings, powerlines, bridges, overpasses, trees.Remain in vehicle

AFTER Earthquake:   Evacuate building to designated evacuation point

                                    Anticipate aftershock as it will come

                                    Await further instructions from safety officer or appropriate authorities

Violence ( Hostage - individual with weapon)  :Immediately report to 911

 All occupants remain in Offices with the doors locked unless instructed otherwise by authorities

 

Hostage situation

  • Avoid drastic action

  • Do what you are told without argument

  • Don’t speak unless spoken to & only when necessary

  • Position yourself where you will not interfere with authorities efforts ( away from windows and not in front of doors

  • Remain calm

 

Bomb Threat

  • Obtain as much information as possible from caller

  • If another person is present have them listen in on call if possible

  • After hanging up take notes on what was said, tone of voice & any background noises

  • Call 911 immediately

 

Threats by Mail/e-mail

  • Keep all evidence

  • Call 911

 

Suspicious Mail:

  • Call 911 / Contact building authorities

  • Do not handle or open package

  • Identify all persons who have handled the package/ If a communicable substance is identified all persons in vicinity should be identified/isolated
