SSRC Spotlight: Josh Richardson
When it comes to technology at the Social Science Research Center, it is almost a given that Josh Richardson will be involved. Originally from Ripley, Miss., Josh has made the SSRC his home for the past three years, solving problems for two years as a student worker and now finishing up his first year as the Center’s full time System Administrator.
Josh moved to Starkville in 2005 to attend Mississippi State, where he graduated with a degree in Computer Science. It is something he has always considered a passion.
“Technology is what I love, and I even do a good bit of it outside of work,” said Josh. “I grew up obsessed with computers and technology, and there’s always something going on or something new to learn. I love it.”
Another thing that drew Josh to the job at the SSRC was the amount of creative freedom it allows him to have.
“Nowadays most workplaces are very rigid, but here it’s different. There’s a creative freedom that allows us to pursue technology.”
Josh hopes to make his mark on the SSRC in the future by helping upgrade labs and improving how smoothly people are able to do their day-to-day jobs.
“I see a chance in the future for us to do really creative and innovative things, whether it be the new Innovative Data Lab or anything else.”
Josh is currently starting several certification processes, including Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist, Microsoft Certified IT Professional and Microsoft Certified Master.
When he isn’t dealing with computers, Josh enjoys being active by playing racquetball, and also traveling with friends.
